Hawayanncafe in Island of Hawaii

Stopped by for a late lunch and tried the Korean chicken plate with potato salad. Chicken was freshly fried and was delicious. It was served on a bed of sprouts. The potato salad was very tasty. Like a combination macaroni and potato salad. Service was great. Would definitely come back again!

Friday night's surf and turf is my wife's favorite and the size of the Prime Rib they serve her feeds me too.

My word... The food was amazing. We had the Korean chicken and the house special pork. Probably the most local feeling restaurant of our whole Hawaii trip. The employees were super friendly and happy to have us there. The food is decently priced.. Under $12 for almost anything and the portions are fair for the money paid. Go here!!

My favorite place to eat on the Big Island. The Friday night prime rib and lobster is to die for. Make a reservation if you want to go on Friday night. It fills up quick.

Had the grilled fish burger or the day (catch was Ono). My family got the Korean chicken, hamburger plate, and steak plate. Everything was good - the fish burger and the Korean chicken in particular I loved.The only thing keeping this off 5 stars is that it felt a little pricey, but maybe it's on par for the market. I could be a expecting a bit too optimistic. I certainly don't regret eating there.

Had delicious pork roast with rice and coleslaw. Gravy was just right. The lady behind the counter was friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome at her place.

Chill spot to stop and rest during a road trip. Very hospitable place with delicious local eats. It's right off the road so parking is limited.

Humble appearance, but surprisingly good and authentic local cuisine. If you want a good Hawaiian style plate lunch, this is the place.

We stopped here on the way to the look out for Pololu Valley. There were only a few restaurants listed on the way and we decided to stop here. The portions were large and delicious and the gravy was savory. As a tourist I also appreciated that it was a very short walk to see the statue of King Kamehameha.

Cheap and delicious. My wife and I visited for a quick stop to try some Hawaiian style dishes. We were also busy on the phone and couldn't eat right away. The owner was super helpful and brought out covers for out dishes while we were on the phone to make sure no flies lands on our food. In the end, we really enjoyed the meal and the service. Thank you!

Been on the big island 9 days and traveled to all corners. This was by far the best meal the family has had! The mini platter of fresh Ono was to big for me to finish.

If you are looking for local homestyle Hawaiian cuisine, Minnie's is it! Stopped here yesterday for lunch and enjoyed the ahi and the slow roasted pork with a side of tropical coleslaw. They're happy to do split plates if you want to try two different dishes. Portions are generous and one plate was enough for the two of us. Very reasonably priced. Lots of Aloha here and even got to chat with Minnie herself. Come during the week and be sure to check hours (on Google) as she is closed on the weekends for family reasons.

Great food! We had a cheeseburger, Korean wings and a Veggie sandwich. All if it was excellent and the service was awesome. Outdoor seating was great, no flash here, very down home Hawaiian feel. If we ever end up in Kohala again we will definitely eat here!

I had the fish and chicken plate and it was delicious. Fish was tender and the sauce that came with it made it even better. I was expecting slices of chicken but it was actually chicken wings but without any sauce or dressing. It didn't need it though. It was breaded and flavorful on its own. It came with three scoops of rice and potato/mac salad, by favorite combination. Would definitely come back.

Best seared ahi special with mixed greens and rice. Owner has a great personality. Highly recommend this local place.

Fantastic quality fish here...had a gigantic portion of seared ahi and it was enough to split with my wife. Kids had Korean style wings they were insanely good. All of us fed and out of there for $36.

We stumbled on this place after hiking at Pololū Valley and are so glad we did! This was the best lunch we had on the island. Small no frills establishment with great local plate lunches. We had the Korean Chicken plate which was excellent!

Delicious, home-cooked local foods. Recommend the steak and onions special, as well as the Korean chicken.Orders are cooked to order, so be prepared to wait. It's better to get a table outside because the place doesn't have air-conditioning. But the service and distress are exceptional. We're happy to support this local business!!

Stopped here with the family while out touring the island. Pork plate and Korean Chicken plate were crazy delicious. My youngest son had a burger which was also very good. They did a grilled cheese for my other son who is a vegetarian. I highly recommend this place.

Fresh caught fish are features of the day prepared homestyle Hawaiian. Food & service are excellent. Very relaxing atmosphere. Medium price range. Stop & enjoy......you'll be glad u did.

If your looking for a restaurant in North kohala this is the place. Its conveniently located in the little town of kapa'au just before the "original" statue of King Kamehameha. A simple menu with large portions. Our family loved it! Will be back again.

Delicious food and friendly staff!! I had the fish of the day plate with rice and greens and my boyfriend had the chicken plate with rice and coleslaw. My fish was cooked perfectly to order and my boyfriend said his chicken wings were the "best in the business!" Also HUGE portions. Would highly recommend to anyone stopping through.
